of SCORPIONS! YUK!!!

Click the picture to enlarge it.
These are almost all the scorpions we have found in the house JUST since May 13th 2008! I decided to start ‘collecting’ them after I was stung on May 13, my daughter Katie’s birthday. My DH was stung IN BED on the day that baby Sarah was born. When I called him at 4 AM to tell him she had arrived, he moved his leg and was stung by the largest scorpion in the picture (not the dark one, the light colored one). Hmmm, I think we will be extra careful on birthdays around here,
.
The two dark colored ones are not actual scorpions, they are called Vinegaroons. They spray acetic acid rather than stinging you. They are quite stinky, lol. If you smell vinegar, look for one of these but don’t look too closely because it really hurts if they spray you in your eyes!
In addition to all the ones pictured here, we have two live ones in a bucket in the kitchen and we had to throw one away that was accidentally squashed when Emily tried to catch it. We have had more than 40 in the house since we moved here in May of 2006, but this summer has been really bad. We have had a lot more rain and they come in when it rains.
Why would we keep “live” ones? Science of course, lol. We catch spiders and throw them into the container and then watch the scorpions catch and eat them. We made a video tape of the last one and Emily is editing it and replacing the sound (lots of children yelling and talking over each other, lol) with music. She plans to post it on YouTube when it is finished. We may try to post it here as well.
Thanks for reading, I hope this wasn’t too disgusting.

I LOVED THIS MOVIE! It has a lot of funny moments and I had to fight to keep my behind in the seat instead of jumping up to sing and dance in the aisle.
I want to see it again. I AM buying the sound track and the DVD as soon as it comes out.
OK, it isn’t a great movie, but it is a fun movie and I love ABBA music.
The entire story is based around the lyrics of ABBA songs but there is no actual ABBA singing in the movie. All the singing is done by the actors.
Meryl Streep can SING! Pierce Brosnan, not so much, lol. He isn’t horrid but he won’t be putting out a solo album anytime soon.
I think all the actors sang very well (with the exception of Mr. Brosnan who’s singing was acceptable). A couple of Ms. Streep’s songs were a little bit shaky but OH MY, when she sings, Winner Takes it All, SHE ROCKS! I was blown away.
If you grew up listening to ABBA, you will enjoy this movie. My dh who likes awful music like 50 Cent and listens to Howard Stern (pray for him!) liked the movie and has been listening to Sirius Channel 3 - ALL ABBA music - for 3 days!! He keeps telling me all the ABBA fun facts and trivia from the radio. I kid you not!
Mamma Mia is definitely not a kid movie, there is a lot of innuendo and quite a bit of adult subject matter but there is no sex or nudity and I don’t think there are any real swear words but I can’t recall for sure. The older ladies talk about “Catholic guilt” and of course there is a lot of reference to sex outside of marriage.
I recommend it to anyone who likes ABBA music or grew up listening to “pop” music in the 70’s and early 80’s.
Edited to add: OOPS! I just remembered there is a *nude* shot! You see the rear end of one of the “dads” rather unexpectedly while he is on the boat. Sorry!

I found a really neat blog / website with some great ideas and natural products. They are also having a contest where you can win their Farm Fresh Oatmeal Soap and a wooden soap dish!
I love the cleaning and freshening tips but I’ve only scratched the surface of this site. I can’t wait to really look it over.
Take a look and let me know what you think: Homestead Simplicity
You can also get their Homestead Simplicity Primer (eBook) for free today only by going to Homeschool Freebie of the Day and following the link. It is normally $9.95 so don’t miss this great opportunity.
Blessings,
Krisann

I finished reading The Last Lecture
by Randy Pausch while I was at the airport. I HIGHLY recommend this book to everyone. It is an entertaining book but a heart-wrenching story about a man with three small children facing terminal cancer. It is not about dying but about living and it has some great lessons for all of us. Let me warn you, I cried - a lot - but I am a very emotional person with small children so I truly felt for his family.
You really should watch his actual “Last Lecture” video on You-Tube or another video service before you read the book so you understand the references and can see his passion. You will get so much more out of the book.
While I was in the bookstore at the airport searching for another book to read, a young man came in asking if they had it in paperback yet. The counter person said it was too popular and probably won’t come out in PB for awhile. I told him I had just finished it and it contains some really important lessons and was a very good read. Then I gave him my copy and told him to pass it on when he is finished. He said thank you and told me his father is dying of cancer. The young man’s name is Brian, please say a prayer for him and his family.
If you buy this book, when you finish reading it, please pass it on. Don’t let it collect dust on a shelf. It’s message is much too important.

GIRL!
Her name is Sarah Kay. She arrived at 4:44 AM, June 28, 2008. She weighed in at 6lbs. 10oz. and is 18″ long. She has just a little bit of strawberry blonde hair and is gorgeous!

My camera wasn’t working, the battery died right before the birth (of course!). But I am getting a new one and will post more photos later.

Cris took Jack to get his very first professional hair cut this weekend.
He did really well! He sat still for the most part and he didn’t cry or fuss at all. Cris was very pleasantly surprised after the way Sam acted the first time he went to get a hair cut.
Here are some before and after pictures (click any picture to enlarge it):
